The objective for this trail is to create an additional viable route through an area of the Fells that is already in high use. By reassigning this trail as shared-use for all non-motorized users, park management will greatly reduce user conflicts both on this trail and on adjacent fireroads, as well as eliminate enforcement issues. Currently, this trail is assigned to pedestrians such as hikers, dog walkers and snowshoers. We propose to make this trail a fully shared-use trail to include availability to skiers and mountain bikers.
The upgrade to the trail, is necessary to repair decades of wear and tear, and will stabilize the tread in many spots that are nearly, but not quite, sustainable. In addition to significant narrowing, braids and spurs will be closed to allow for vegetation re-growth and aesthetic improvement. The proposed work will make the trail sustainable for several years before needing further attention.
