Lynn Woods is one of the premiere destinations for Mountain Bicylists in New England.  The rugged terrain provides an excellent opportunity for technical riding with lots of large rock outcroppings.  This park is owned by the City of Lynn and is managed by the Town Parks and Recreation Department.  The relationship between mountain bikers and this property has been almost as rocky as the property itself.  The increased use of the property by mountain bikers in the early 80's helped to drive out some illicit activities and mountain bikers have been very integral in the revitalization of the trail system on the property.  However, a history of some riders making their own trail without permission and building some rather dubious stunts have strained relationships at times.  The current situation at the park is good for cyclists.  NEMBA worked to develop a series of new trails on Bow Ridge after a portion of this area was closed and we provide on going financial support to the ranger.

NEMBA has struggled to maintain a relationship with the local riding community.  Many of the riders who frequent the park are self protested free spirits who prefer not to associate with a large mainstream organization like NEMBA.  Fortunately, a group of local riders stepped forward and are now the main liasons with the park management.  This group Diesel Bikes is less structured and works autonomously from NEMBA but has succeded in gaining respect of both the local free ride community and the park management.  They are doing a good job of advocating on the behalf of the riding community and their trail work is of increasingly good quality.  NEMBA supports their efforts.  In the past we have worked together on some events while at the same time trying to provide Diesel Bikes with enough space to create their own autonomy.

As we move forward NEMBA hopes to strengthen our relationship with Diesel Bikes.  We look forward to providing support and we encourage Diesel Bikes to keep up the good work.
